Before and After Satellite Imagery Shows ‘Swollen’ Rivers in Queensland

Satellite imagery shows how a rainy month has impacted parts of Queensland, Australia.

The imagery, released by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) on Wednesday, April 9, shows the difference between southwest Queensland on March 4 and the same area on April 7.

“Rivers in southwest Queensland, Australia, are swollen after a very rainy March,” CIRA wrote on X.

According to the Australian Government’s Bureau of Meteorology, Queensland had above average rainfall in March 2025, making it the wettest March in the state since 2011. Credit: CSU/CIRA & NOAA via Storyful
