Ice Nine Kills landed themselves in some hot water over the weekend when they pushed a merch sale on their website with some pretty shitty AI-generated imagery. The band clearly isn’t too fazed by the situation either, as they’ve issued a statement calling the incident a “horrific headline-making crime against Redditors” alongside the publication of more AI slop.
It’s always a good look as an artist to essentially let other artists that you don’t give a fuck about them and are willing to keep doing the thing that makes them angry. Real mature, guys. I guess if someone loaded up Ice Nine Kills‘ Spotify with fake AI “music” it’d be funny too, right?
“We are vigorously investigating the disturbing claims that a recent promotional image was sloppily birthed by AI,” wrote Ice Nine Kills. “We solemnly pledge to get to the bottom of this horrific headline-making crime against Redditors. For now, enjoy our new promo photo, taken just moments ago.”

Or you, as a person with a functional brain and basic empathy, can recognize that AI “art” is built entirely on the backs of artists who actually put the work into becoming an artist, and that AI “art” is pure theivery. Or the third option is everyone can laugh it off and we can continue our spiral into the depths of the enshittification of art.
