Former Consequence CoSign Sasami has charted a North American tour that’s set for this spring in support of her upcoming album Blood on the Silver Screen. Additionally, she’s shared her latest single, “In Love with a Memory,” which features Clairo.
On her upcoming run of tour dates, she’ll hit cities like Los Angeles, Austin, Nashville, Toronto, Chicago, Brooklyn, and more. Prior to the tour, she’ll also perform four solo dates at various Rough Trade record stores. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 31st at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster and Sasami’s website.
“In Love With a Memory” follows previous singles “Slugger,” “Just Be Friends,” and “Honeycrash.” Like those other tracks, the new song finds the artist embracing shimmering pop rather than the more abrasive, rock-injected sound of her 2022 album Squeeze. This time, Sasami takes particular influence from the canon of Japanese pop ballads. As such, Clairo’s guest spot works as a natural fit, with her verse matching indie pop vibes of the instrumental.
“‘In Love With A Memory’ was actually the first song I wrote that ended up on Blood on the Silver Screen,” Sasami explains. “I grew up going to Japanese or Korean ‘noraebang’ private karaoke rooms with my mom, who was secretly the most incredible singer. Most of her go-to numbers were oooold Japanese and Korean folk songs that low-key kind of made me feel like I was in a horror film or David Lynch movie. I can picture my mom in a Julee Cruise-type setting — single, jazz lounge spotlight and cigarette smoke hanging stalely in the air- singing one of those old songs with the most gorgeously haunting vibrato and breathtaking vocal control. That’s the feeling I was tapping into when I started writing.”
